Talk night 26th June 2010
The HAMG hosted a fundraising talk night at Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall on Saturday 26th June 2010. Guest speakers were former 2 (AC) Squadron pilot Flight Lieutenant Doug Reich and historian Paul Doyle, author of 'Where The Lysanders Were'.
An estimated 180 people attended on a very warm evening to hear first speaker Paul Doyle give a detailed account of the history of RAF Sawbridgeworth in wartime and beyond. After the raffle and refreshments Doug Reich enthralled and entertained the audience with stories of his time as a trainee and operational pilot flying from Sawbridgeworth and other airfields, up until he became a prisoner of war in Nazi-occupied France.
A collection was made for the Help for Heroes charity which raised £130.
We would like to thank both Doug Reich and Paul Doyle for their time and effort. Doug, who described himself as an 88-year-old teenager, travelled from his home in North Wales to be with us.
We would like to thank the following for their support; Dorringtons bakery, Homebase, The White Lion pub, Two Two Fly, Tuck Shop, Dave Spratt, Tony Boosey, Spencer Richards, The Queens Head pub (Allens Green) and Great St. Mary's Church (Sawbridgeworth)
Thanks also to Sharon Cosgrove, Shareen Sharp and Karen Dent for their help serving drinks and food, and Hazel Mead for help with the raffle.
